Record-breaking triumph at Lower Rhine Cycling Marathon
The 30th Lower Rhine Cycling Day took place on Sunday, 30th May, under the theme "Time Travel". The event, which attracted cycling enthusiasts from across the region, began with an opening ceremony at the mobility station at the train station in Rommerskirchen-Eckum.
The day was officially opened by District Administrator Dirk Brüggge and the Mayor of Rommerskirchen, Dr. Martin Mertens. Eight municipalities, including Alpen, Geldern, Kevelaer, Krefeld, Moers, Neukirchen-Vluyn, Rheinberg, and Wesel, played a significant role in the success of the day.
The cycling routes in Rhein-Kreis Neuss catered to various target groups, from families with children and leisure cyclists to sporty "kilometer-makers". One popular route was Route 92, which connected the children's farm in Neuss with the Kloster Langwaden and the Kloster Knechtsteden.
The event day saw a total of 62 event locations participating in the Lower Rhine region, offering over 90 routes for cyclists to explore. The lengths of the routes in Rhein-Kreis Neuss ranged from 20 to 55 kilometers. The region offered 15 cycling routes during the Lower Rhine Cycling Day.
The Route 92 journey offered a scenic and varied journey along the Erft River, the Strategic Railway Embankment, and the Knechtstedener Busch. Especially with the developed and touristically enhanced Strategic Railway Embankment, a new experience was offered during the event day.
With its mix of historical sites, picturesque landscapes, and modern amenities, the 30th Lower Rhine Cycling Day provided a unique and enjoyable experience for all who participated.
