Record-breaking Ticket Sales Celebrated for Women's World Cup

Record-Breaking Women's Rugby World Cup 2025 Gathers Momentum

The Women's Rugby World Cup 2025 is set to make history as ticket sales have surpassed 400,000, making it the best-attended women's World Cup in history. This milestone exceeds all internal targets and reflects unprecedented fan engagement and demand compared to previous tournaments.

By late August 2025, over 375,000 tickets had already been sold, and sales kept climbing rapidly. A reported sell-out for the final at Twickenham and strong attendance figures like 85,000 fans across eight matches in just one weekend have contributed to this impressive figure. The digital engagement has also surpassed the previous tournament held in New Zealand in 2022, with 77 million video views and 3.6 million social media interactions recorded so far.

The opening match of the tournament will see the hosts, England, take on the United States at Sunderland's Stadium of Light, with over 40,000 spectators expected to watch the highly-anticipated contest on Friday. England is currently the odds-on favourite to win the tournament, having won 57 out of its last 58 games, with the only loss being the Eden Park match in 2017. New Zealand, France, and Canada are the only teams considered remotely qualified to challenge England.

The final of the World Cup will be held on September 27 and is expected to surpass the record for a women's international, which is the 58,498 at the same stadium for England v France in the 2023 Six Nations. Only the final and the third-place playoff will be played in London, with the semi-finals taking place at other venues across England.

Sarah Massey, WRWC Managing Director, has encouraged fans not to miss the tournament, as remaining tickets are selling quickly. The 2029 Women's Rugby World Cup will be the ninth edition of the tournament, but this year's event will mark a significant step forward in promoting women's rugby globally. In fact, the four semi-finalists will automatically qualify for the 2029 edition, along with the hosts Australia, who will take over from England in 2029.

The Women's Rugby World Cup begins on Friday, and it's shaping up to be an unforgettable event for fans and players alike. With record-breaking ticket sales, viewership, and engagement, it's clear that the future of women's rugby is bright and full of promise.
