Record-breaking surge in sports betting activity in New York during July
New York's sports betting market is thriving, with industry giants FanDuel and DraftKings leading the charge. According to recent data, FanDuel's win percentage and handle percentages surpassed those of BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook, and ESPN Bet in the state.
FanDuel, the market leader, reported a gross gaming revenue of approximately $86.3 million and a handle of $563.7 million in June 2025, making it the dominant operator by a significant margin. DraftKings follows closely, with $70.5 million in revenue and a $520 million handle in the same month.
Caesars Sportsbook and BetMGM, while not as high as the top two, still hold substantial shares. Caesars posted $15 million in revenue and a $150 million handle in June, while BetMGM had $11.9 million in revenue and a $116.6 million handle.
The market is not limited to these four operators, with Fanatics, bet365, WynnBET, Resorts World, and Bally Bet also holding licenses. However, these operators have smaller shares compared to the top four.
In July, the sports betting revenue in New York State increased by 10.9%, with a handle of $1.4 billion and a hold rate of 11.1%. DraftKings led in handle percentage with 36.3%, slightly higher than FanDuel's 34%. FanDuel, however, had the highest hold rate among sportsbooks in the state, at 12.9%.
The competition remains tight, with BetMGM and Caesars Sportsbook having similar win percentages. DraftKings' win percentage was lower than FanDuel but higher than the other competitors. ESPN Bet, on the other hand, had the lowest handle share and win percentage among the mentioned operators.
In terms of revenue, FanDuel also took the lead with a 39.4% share, followed by DraftKings with 33.7%. The hold rates for BetMGM, DraftKings, and ESPN Bet were similar.
The market's growth is evident, with monthly handles in the billions and gross revenue consistently over $150 million statewide. These figures underscore the potential for further growth and competition in the New York sports betting market.
