Record-Breaking Sales for 'Batman No. 1' Comic, Exceeding Half a Million Copies

In the world of comic books, DC has once again made headlines with the release of their latest Batman title, Batman No. 1. This new instalment, penned by writer Matt Fraction and illustrated by Jorge Jimenez, has become one of the most successful comics of the year.

The comic, which reimagines Gotham City with a "superhero-forward tone", a new Batmobile, and a vivid blue-and-gray costume, has been met with overwhelming enthusiasm from fans. Its sales figure is unlikely to be topped this year, as it has already sold out with comic book distributors and will have a second printing on Oct. 15.

Batman No. 1 is a sequel to the classic Hush storyline, and DC chief Jim Lee returned to drawing duties in Batman No. 158, another DC comic that has sold over 400,000 copies. This isn't the first time DC has renumbered the Batman comic in its 84-year history, but it's certainly one of the most successful renumberings.

The sales success of Batman No. 1 continues a strong year for DC, particularly the Absolute imprint. The Absolute titles, such as Absolute Batman, written by Scott Snyder and drawn by Nick Dragotta, have been selling well into the millions of copies, according to insiders. Absolute Batman's first issue sold over 200,000 copies in its first printing.

The Absolute titles have gone to multiple printings, with even comics featuring lesser-known heroes such as Martian Manhunter selling in the six figures with their debut issue. This trend is a testament to DC's ability to captivate audiences with their storytelling.

Writer Matt Fraction, expressing his excitement about the reception of Batman No. 1, stated, "I'm thrilled to see fans embracing our take on Batman. Jorge and I have poured our hearts into this series, and it's amazing to see it resonate with readers."

Meanwhile, Invincible Universe: Battle Beast No. 1 from Robert Kirkman's Skybound and Image Comics has also sold over 400,000 copies, making it a strong competitor in the comic book market. However, Batman No. 1 remains the top-selling comic of the year so far.

As Batman Day, held on Sept. 20 this year, approaches, the circulation news of the new Batman comic is being announced, adding to the excitement among fans. With such a successful start, it will be interesting to see where the story of Batman No. 1 goes from here.
