Recommendation made to bar Trump administration official Jeffrey Clark due to his attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election results

The Washington, D.C. disciplinary board has recommended that Jeffrey Clark, a longtime ally of former President Donald Trump, should lose his law license. The recommendation comes after Clark's actions were questioned for integrity in the election process.

Currently serving as the acting administrator of the White House Office of Management and Budget's Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, Clark found himself under scrutiny when he urged the Department of Justice (DOJ) leadership to issue a letter that would cast doubt on the 2020 election results while serving as an assistant attorney general.

The panel's decision was based on Clark's actions of urging the Justice Department to issue a letter despite being told by DOJ leadership that his theory was not correct. The letter drafted by Clark but never sent urged the Georgia state legislature to investigate election "irregularities" and, if necessary, appoint electors that would go against the results of the popular vote.

The recommendation for Clark includes disbarment as a consequence, if approved by the D.C. Court of Appeals. This would result in Clark's disbarment, which is currently under automatic suspension. The panel wrote that lawyers must observe the highest standard of professional conduct and, at a minimum, be honest.

Two members of the nine-member board recommended a three-year suspension for Clark instead of disbarment. Clark has 30 days to request that the court block the automatic suspension pending the court's final decision.

The disciplinary board's recommendation now moves to the D.C. Court of Appeals for a final decision. The decision is another instance of the ongoing scrutiny faced by Trump and his allies, as the potential punishment for Clark shows the cascading, and continuing, effects of their efforts to keep Trump in the White House despite losing the 2020 presidential election.

Clark has faced harassment, raids, doxing, and blacklisting, according to OMB communications director Rachel Cauley, who stated that this decision is another instance of the deep state's assault on President Trump and his allies. Despite the challenges, Clark posted a message indicating the fight continues.
