Gathering of Reichsbürger and Self-administrators in Karlsruhe Sparks Counter-Protests

Karlsruhe, Germany - A rally scheduled for this Saturday afternoon near the Federal Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe is expected to attract around 300 to 350 participants from the "Reichsbürger" movement and "self-administrators," who reject the legitimacy of the Federal Republic of Germany and call for resistance against the current state order.

This event, while significant for these groups who broadly deny the German state’s authority and are often linked to conspiracy beliefs and anti-government sentiments, has sparked a series of counter-protests, reflecting civil society’s resistance to their anti-democratic and often extremist ideology.

The Reichsbürger movement, known for proclaiming the German Reich as still existing and rejecting the democratic state, poses a potential threat to public security, as recently highlighted by the arrest of Peter Fitzek, a prominent Reichsbürger leader, on charges of plotting to overthrow the state.

The march is expected to proceed through the city via the Adenauerring and return to the Schlossplatz around 4 pm. Around 500 people from the Reichsbürger scene nationwide are expected to attend, with approximately 1500 people in total expected to attend the counter-protests.

Eight counter-protests are planned, with the Karlsruhe police appealing to counter-protesters, asking them to protest but not with the intention of preventing another assembly. The police's appeal is based on the freedom of assembly.

Despite the potential for unrest, the Karlsruhe police do not anticipate major disturbances from the Reichsbürger scene, citing the heterogeneity and internal divisions within the movement as a reason for this.

This upcoming gathering in Karlsruhe underscores continued activism by the Reichsbürger movement in Germany, which provokes concern about anti-constitutional activities and provokes counter-protests affirming democratic values and public order.

  1. The gathered counter-protesters in Karlsruhe, against the Reichsbürger and self-administrators, are focusing on upholding general news related to democratic values and public order.
  2. The television coverage of the conflict in Karlsruhe between the Reichsbürger movement and those affirming democracy could potentially feature war-and-conflicts, crime-and-justice, and politics, given the extremist ideology, potential threats to public security, and counter-protests involved.
