CDU Faction in Solingen Pushes for Budget Reforms and Cultural Enhancements

The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) faction in Solingen is advocating for a series of budget-related priorities, aiming to enhance cultural offerings, optimize school infrastructure expenses, and ensure fiscal responsibility.

The CDU's demands include the development of a comprehensive cultural concept, a reduction in costs at the Vogelsang school center, and the creation of a reality budget. These initiatives are designed to align with the call for practical and transparent budgeting in municipalities, allowing for better use of funds and less administrative overhead.

In the cultural sphere, the CDU is proposing a potential solution for the South Park to serve as a centre for culture. The complex around the Karstadt building and the Clemens galleries have been suggested as a possible location.

Regarding the Vogelsang school center, the CDU is resisting a potential cost increase of 150 million euros for its new construction. The faction also expects a reduction in the usable area to lead to significant savings. Additionally, CDU chairman Daniel Flemm is working to prevent the cost explosion at the Vogelsang school center from burdening other schools.

The CDU has expressed concerns about the draft budget, criticizing it for engaging in creative accounting and creating million-dollar holes for individual major projects. Flemm has also complained about a deliberate miscalculation in the budget and a planned increase in the property tax by 25 percent starting in 2028.

In terms of personnel policy, the CDU sees a need for catch-up, as there is no clear plan for personnel shrinkage due to demographic change in the labor market. The faction is advocating for a reduction in bureaucratic expenses and more efficient budgeting and funding mechanisms for local projects.

The CDU continues to oppose a goal- and concept-less debt policy and is ready to follow a goal-oriented budget if the mayor and other factions in the council are willing to do so. The faction is also pushing for the renovation of traffic junctions Dickenbusch, Bonner Street, and Scheuren, and a new start in the city center, with the purchase of areas and real estate to be reflected in the budget.

As the CDU's specific demands for Solingen's budget continue to evolve, further local government communications or CDU Solingen releases may provide more granular updates.

The CDU is advocating for a policy-and-legislation shift, pushing for a reality budget, cultural concept development, and cost reductions at the Vogelsang school center to ensure fiscal responsibility, aligning with the call for practical budgeting. In politics, the CDU is opposing a goal-less debt policy and supports a goal-oriented one, while also pushing for renovations in traffic junctions and the city center.
