In a heartwarming ceremony held on March 27 at Lugano, the renowned pianist Martha Argerich was awarded the "Faithful Service Order in the rank of Grand Officer" by the Romanian Presidency, represented by Romanian Honorary Consul to Switzerland, Ion Marin.

The celebration drew a crowd of notables including Andreea Guțu, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim at the Romanian Embassy in Bern, director Daniele Finzi Pasca, cellist Mischa Maisky, Michel Gagnon, General Director of Lugano "Arte e Cultura", Vincent Augustin, General Director of Swiss Radio and Television - SRG SSR Svizra Rumantscha, and numerous international guests.

Upon receiving the honor, the 83-year-old Argerich, known as one of the greatest pianists in history, took a moment to express her thanks and mention her cherished ties with esteemed Romanian artists like Ion Marin, Radu Lupu, Sergiu Celibidache, Madeleine and Dinu Lipatti, Clara Haskil, and Eugen Ionescu.

In a thrilling announcement, Argerich revealed her plans to return to Bucharest this fall for two captivating concerts as part of the "George Enescu" International Festival.

A joyful Argerich also confirmed her participation in a series of meetings scheduled with children from Cantus Mundi, Romania's largest social integration program for children through music, run by the Madrigal Choir.

As an international supporter of the National Cantus Mundi Program since its inception at the initiative of Maestro Ion Marin, Argerich has been leaving an indelible mark on the piano world since the 1960s, breathing new life into demanding compositions from Liszt to Prokofiev, as well as Ravel and Messiaen.

In an intriguing twist, Martha Argerich is set to perform at the 27th edition of the George Enescu International Festival in Bucharest on August 31, 2025. She will enchant audiences with Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1 in C major, accompanied by the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, under the direction of Daniel Harding. The concert will be staged at Sala Palatului in Bucharest[1][2]. This festival edition, running from August 24 to September 21, 2025, will celebrate the 70th anniversary of George Enescu’s passing, featuring a wide array of classical music performances[3][5].
