After a thrilling three-day showdown from March 20 to 22 in the picturesque town of Eberswalde, Potsdam, the winners of the 2025 state youth music competition, Jugend musiziert, have been announced! In total, 159 first prizes were handed out by the business office of the state committee Jugend musiziert in Potsdam, and a whopping 76 of these winners have been nominated for the federal competition in June.

The competition attracted 246 talented children and youth, and the categories with the highest participation were string instruments, pop singing, and chamber music with piano. A lion's share of the winners were trained at public music schools in Brandenburg, with the Conservatory of Cottbus leading the pack with an impressive 35 first prizes. The Music and Art School Havelland followed closely behind with 27 first prizes, and the municipal music school "Johann Sebastian Bach" in Potsdam came in third with a respectable 19 first prizes.

Jugend musiziert is the largest talent showcase for musical promotion for both amateurs and professionals. It welcomes soloists and ensembles alike.

The Front-Runners

Here's the scoop on the top-performing institutions:

  • Conservatory of Cottbus: This powerhouse school took home a whopping 35 first prizes.
  • Music and Art School Havelland: This school boasted 27 first prizes.
  • Municipal Music School "Johann Sebastian Bach" in Potsdam: They snagged 19 first prizes, with 29 students participating in various solo categories and ensemble evaluations. A stunning 20 participants from Potsdam earned a first prize, which corresponds to an exceptional evaluation.

Many of the contestants secured nominations for the national competition, to be held from May 5 to 11 in Wuppertal.

The assessment categories primarily focused on string instruments, pop singing, and chamber music with piano. The Potsdam Municipal Music School represented the following categories:

  • String instruments: Tim Wellm (Violin)
  • Pop singing: Alexandra Dragan
  • Ensemble evaluations: Guitar Trio (Johannes Forster, Jakob Grunert, Mads Willecke) and Duo with Piano and a Wind Instrument (Artur Senger, Stephan Gottschall).
