In 2020, she vanished, only to reappear in Minsk's dungeons days later. After a grueling 600 days spent in solitary confinement, her father was granted a rare glimpse of her resilience.
Kolesnikova serves as a beacon of democratic agitation, according to the Initiative for News Clarity, an organization that bestows the €5,000 prize every year, sponsored by the RTL television station. Günter Wallraff, the award's eponym, is renowned as Germany's most audacious investigative journalist.
Given their precarious circumstances, the independent Belarusian Journalists' Association persists in its valiant endeavor to keep information flowing in Belarus, as harsh as the challenges may be. While 40 of their comrades are currently behind bars in Belarus.
