Reckless Street Race in Kerpen Injures Five Teens
A dangerous incident unfolded in Kerpen on Wednesday evening when a high-speed car race ended in a crash, leaving five teenagers injured. The chase, involving a BMW and a Mercedes, took place at a busy intersection, putting pedestrians at risk.
The reckless race began around 8:30 PM at the intersection of 'Alte Landstraße' and Sindorferstraße. Witnesses reported that a 19-year-old man, driving a BMW, was racing against a Mercedes at excessive speeds. The BMW driver lost control, causing the car to crash. The driver and his four passengers, all teenagers, sustained minor injuries.
The BMW driver's reckless maneuvers resulted in significant damage. He hit two traffic signs and narrowly missed two pedestrians, aged 18 and 16, who were on a pedestrian island. In a separate incident, an 18-year-old driver lost control of his car while attempting a dangerous 'drift' maneuver in a roundabout.
Police in the Rhein-Erft district are now investigating the suspected illegal street racing incident. The BMW driver's actions put not only his passengers but also innocent bystanders at risk. Authorities urge drivers to prioritize safety and obey traffic laws to prevent such dangerous occurrences.
