Recognitions of Merit bestowed on seven individuals - Recipient of Seven National Honors
In a prestigious ceremony, Minister President Reiner Haseloff (CDU) bestowed the State Merit Order upon seven distinguished citizens for their exceptional achievements. Among the honourees was Andreas Porsche, a doctor and chairman of the International Carl-Loewe Society, and former cyclist Gustav-Adolf Schur, better known as 'Täve' Schur.
Täve Schur, aged 94, was honoured for his work in promoting sports, having inspired generations with his achievements during DDR times. A decorated athlete, Schur competed in the Olympics and won the Peace Race twice. After retiring from his career, he dedicated himself to youth work, leaving a lasting impact on the world of cycling.
The State Merit Order, the highest honour in Saxony-Anhalt, has been awarded 77 times so far, according to the state chancellery. The recipients this year hailed from various fields, including engineering, science, public service, culture, and community engagement.
Lawyer Winfried Kluth and mathematician Max Privorozki, chairman of the Jewish community in Halle, were among those honoured for their contributions to their respective fields. The German Future Prize 2025 recognised scientists and engineers for innovations like minimally invasive eye laser procedures, indicating some laureates were honoured in technological innovation.
Former state parliament president Rüdiger Fikentscher was also honoured with the State Merit Order, while theologian Edda Ahrberg from Tangerhütte and musician Thomas Fritzsch were recognised for their significant contributions to culture and public service, respectively.
The ceremony underscored the diverse contributions of these individuals to the state of Saxony-Anhalt, celebrating their achievements and recognising their dedication to their fields and communities.
