Rebels of the National Peasant's Army (NPA) engage in fresh conflict with military forces in Lanao del Sur region.
In the hinterlands of Lanao del Sur, the 5th Infantry Battalion (5IB) found themselves in two separate encounters with the New People's Army (NPA) rebels within a week. The first clash took place on June 25 in Sandab Madaya village, Butig, and the second on July 1 in Piangologan village, Marogong.
The NPA rebels involved in these clashes belong to the Sub-Regional Committee (SRC)-5 of the NPA's North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC). No casualties were reported on either side in both incidents.
Following the firefights, the NPA rebels are said to have fled the scene, abandoning their personal items. The 1st Infantry Division (1ID) has reported that they recovered 200 rounds of caliber 5.56 millimeter ammunition, eight magazines, a bandolier, clothing, water containers, cooking gear, and other personal items from the clash sites.
In response to these incidents, the 1ID has declared that operations will continue until all remaining NPA rebels in Lanao del Sur are destroyed. The division is currently conducting ongoing pursuit operations against the fleeing NPA rebels.
These clashes are part of the ongoing counterinsurgency efforts by the Philippine military against communist rebel groups. Such operations typically involve pursuit actions following encounters to neutralize remaining armed elements and often result in the recovery of weapons, explosives, and other materials used by the NPA.
For the most accurate and up-to-date information, official military press releases or local government reports should be consulted, as they would provide verified details on the specific incidents, operational status, and items recovered from recent clashes in that area.
The Sub-Regional Committee (SRC)-5 of the NPA's North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC), involved in the recent conflicts, hail from the region of Zamboanga. These war-and-conflicts have extended beyond simple skirmishes, with their impacts also affecting the politics and general news of the region.
