Rebel's Romance Secures Second Berlin Grand Prix Victory
Rebel's Romance, the highly accomplished Thoroughbred racehorse owned by Sheikh Mohammed, ruler of Dubai, has once again triumphed in the prestigious Grosser Preis von Berlin (G1) at Hoppegarten racecourse, Germany. The 135th edition of the race was attended by 11,900 spectators on August 10, 2025.
Ridden by British apprentice jockey Billy Loughnane, Rebel's Romance, the 12:10 favourite, held off his rivals comfortably to win by three-quarters of a length. The French contender Junko (Rene Piechulek) finished as the runner-up, with Cold Heart (Andrasch Starke) in third place.
This victory marks Rebel's Romance's second win in the Berlin Grand Prix, a testament to his international success and enduring excellence in top-level racing. Loughnane, who achieved his first top-level win aboard Rebel's Romance, described the experience as "incredible."
Trained by Charlie Appleby in Newmarket, England, Rebel's Romance has an outstanding record of 19 wins from 28 career starts, including eight Group 1 (G1) victories. The Arquana Stutenpreis and the Steher-Preis, both worth 30,000 euros, were also held at Hoppegarten, with Koffi Kick, ridden by Thore Hammer-Hansen, winning the Arquana Stutenpreis. In addition to the Berlin Grand Prix, these three breeding races were held at Hoppegarten.
