Reason Behind Mitch Owen's Transfer from PSL to IPL Not Resulting in a Corbin Bosch-style Suspension Examined

Cracking Changes in IPL 2025:

Punjab Kings Shake Things Up!

The Punjab Kings have made a significant move, announcing the inclusion of Mitch Owen for the remaining matches of IPL 2025, following an injury to Glenn Maxwell. Interestingly, unlike Corbin Bosch, Owen won't be slapped with a ban, according to recent reports.

Finger Fracture Plagues Maxwell, Owen Steps In

During a toss ahead of Punjab's clash against the Chennai Super Kings on April 30, captain Shreyas Iyer revealed that Maxwell was recovering from a fractured finger. Subsequently, it was announced that Maxwell would be out for the rest of IPL 2025.

To fill Maxwell's shoes, the Kings snapped up the Tasmanian whiz kid Owen for a whopping INR 3 crore. Recognized as a cricketing prodigy, Owen had wowed the cricketing world with his record-equaling hundred in the 2024/25 BBL final.

In men's T20 cricket, Owen boasts an impressive stat line: 646 runs comes with an awe-inspiring strike rate of 185. He's also a formidable medium-pace bowler.

Switching Allegiance from Peshawar Zalmi

With a deal in his pocket, Owen had a contract with the Peshawar Zalmi in the ongoing PSL. Despite scoring only 101 runs from 7 games, albeit at a phenomenal strike rate of 198, and taking 2 wickets, his talent is undeniable.

The Zalmi still have three games left in the league stage: Multan Sultans (May 5), Karachi Kings (May 8), and Lahore Qalandars (May 9). As things stand, the Zalmi are fighting for a spot in the playoffs scheduled for May 13, 14, 16, and 18.

Punjab's Liverpool-like Juggling Act

Punjab, now second on the table, have crucial matches against Lucknow Super Giants (May 4), Delhi Capitals (May 8), Mumbai Indians (May 11), and Rajasthan Royals (May 16), followed by the playoffs on May 20, 21, 23, and 25. Based on form, the Kings are among the favorites for a playoff berth.

There was a chance of a scheduling conflict due to Owen's commitments with the Zalmi. However, it appears that he will join Punjab only after PZ's PSL 2025 season wraps up. If PZ don't qualify, Owen will be available for Punjab's last two league matches and, if they make it, the playoffs. If PZ qualify, Owen's IPL availability will be adjusted accordingly.

Comparing Bosch's and Owen's Decisions

Some might draw parallels between Owen and Corbin Bosch, who was signed up by the Mumbai Indians after Lizaad Williams got injured, while he was under a PSL contract. Bosch had to let go of his PSL contract and copped a one-year ban from the league.

However, unlike Bosch, there's no sign that Owen had a PSL 2025 contract, so the chances of a ban are slim. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
