Reality TV personality delivers first child with an uncommon name, discusses challenging childbirth: "I felt lost"
Bachelor star Mia MacKinnon, 33, and her fiancé Joshua William King have welcomed their first child, a baby girl named Malibu Emma Malua King, on August 8, 2023. The couple announced the happy news on Instagram with a series of heartwarming photos.
However, Mia's labor and delivery were fraught with complications. Due to a lack of amniotic fluid in her amniotic sac, her dreams of having a water birth were quickly scrapped. This unexpected turn of events led to an emergency C-section, leaving Mia feeling terrified and hopeless.
Prior to the birth, Mia had undergone a catheter balloon induction, but the baby did not respond well to it. As a result, her heart rate kept dropping during labor, leading to the use of an epidural. Despite these challenges, Joshua was there to support Mia, taking care of her and feeding Malibu after the birth.
Mia and Joshua spent six days in the hospital following the birth, during which Mia struggled to hold her newborn daughter due to her weakened condition. The couple shared images of their beach vacation and Mia's baby bump on Instagram in January, and Joshua proposed to Mia on April 6, 2023.
In one of the shared photos, baby Malibu is dressed in a baby pink knitted onesie and matching booties, snuggled up in her parents' arms. The couple's journey to parenthood was not without its obstacles, but they have embraced their new role with love and determination.
