The Big Cheese, Florentino Pérez, is in talks with Álvaro Carreras, a right-back from Benfica, to fill the void at the left-back position. Although the Castilian negotiations have been successful, Benfica's reluctance is causing a stumble. Lisbon's board, chaired by Rui Costa, is attempting to delay the transfer and is adamant about Carreras suiting up for Benfica during the Club World Cup.
And it seems that Real Madrid will spare no effort to get their man. "Álvaro Carreras will be a Real Madrid player, with or without Benfica's cooperation – deal's done," is what 'OkDiario' reported, and they mean business. They've got less than 48 hours to seal the deal as the June 10 deadline looms close.
The Portugese club's demand for a hefty €50–60 million transfer fee has been causing quite a squabble. Real Madrid has offered €40–48 million, leaving an €8 million gap, as of early June. If they can't iron out these differences by June 10, Carreras might miss out on the Club World Cup – an outcome Benfica, and possibly Carreras, would like to avoid.
From Depor to De Valbebas – Carreras' Journey
Álvaro Carreras first laced up his boots for Deportivo La Coruña, and eventually, Real Madrid spotted his potential and brought him to the Centro Deportivo de Valdebebas for training way back in 2017. After pumping his talent, Manchester United snatched him up in 2020, but they loaned him out thrice before Benfica got their hands on him four years later for a cool €7 million.
The 2024/2025 season was a successful one for Bruno Lage's Benfica, as they ended second in the domestic league and won the Portuguese Cup runners-up title. Carreras was a regular starter, scoring 3 goals and providing 3 assists in 40 out of the 42 matches he was called up for.
