Persisting Shoulder Injury Casts Doubt on Jude Bellingham's Performance for This Season, as Real Madrid Rely on His Skills

Real Madrid is reportedly planning shoulder surgery for Jude Bellingham due to an undisclosed issue.

Troublesome Shoulder Injury Hounds Bellingham

The headache persists for Jude Bellingham as his troublesome shoulder issue continues to cause problems this season.

This Real Madrid maestro is now left no choice but to heavily strap the problematic area, declining surgery to address his long-standing dilemma.

Bellingham initially experienced issues with his shoulder during his tenure at Borussia Dortmund in Germany, often wearing shoulder support during games between 2020 to 2023. Fast forward two years, and the strapping remains a constant feature.

What's Ailing Bellingham's Shoulder?

Following his transfer to Spain, Bellingham dislocated his shoulder during a 0-0 draw against Rayo Vallecano in November 2023. Consequently, he was forced to miss Real Madrid's subsequent two matches and England's last two Euro 2024 qualifiers.

It was anticipated that surgery would transpire as a result of his injury woes, but eventually, the operation failed to materialize.

The injury surfaced once more in a 1-0 victory against city rivals Getafe last month. As Bellingham emerged as a second-half substitute, his left shoulder was conspicuously strapped up by a Real Madrid medic.

Despite falling short in both the Copa del Rey final and missing out on La Liga glory to El Clasico rivals Barcelona, Madrid's trophy aspirations are far from over.

Los Blancos will appear in the FIFA Club World Cup in June, with Bellingham's shoulder surgery scheduled to take place following the tournament.

As reported by The Athletic, Bellingham is anticipated to be sidelined for approximately 12 weeks, making him unavailable for the start of the 2025-26 La Liga season.

"It's the same shoulder as last year," remarked manager Carlo Ancelotti in September when concerns surfaced about Bellingham's shoulder problem. "The issue he had the other day hasn't affected him. He'll wear protection, just to be safe, but he's available, he'll play."

In December, Bellingham himself downplayed his injury, stating, "It's OK. I'm still in the sling which is a little uncomfortable, but overall, the feeling is pretty good."

This isn't the first long-term injury that Bellingham has confronted, having previously worn a knee brace for months.
