Real Madrid and Ronaldo Face Additional Transfer Regulations Due to World Cup Participation

In the aftermath of Jonathan Tah's transfer to FC Bayern Munich, negotiations are now underway between Bayern and Bayer Leverkusen. Tah's debut for the record champions is tentative and depends on the outcome of these negotiations, as they pertain to a holiday in America, a new FIFA rule, and a potential cash payment.

The impetus for this unique transfer situation stems from the upcoming inaugural Club World Cup in the USA, scheduled from June 14 to July 13. This prestigious international club tournament follows the usual end date for professional contracts (June 30). To prevent chaos caused by mid-tournament player transfers, FIFA has introduced an additional transfer window to accommodate the participating teams. Bayern Munich’s Thomas Müller is one of the players who have extended their contracts beyond their original June 30 ending dates to remain eligible for the Club World Cup.

The newly created third transfer window will allow clubs to sign new players or extend contracts for the tournament period between June 1 and 10. However, players cannot represent two clubs during the Club World Cup. Bayern's negotiations with Bayer are primarily about a possible monetary compensation for Tah to play for Munich in the group stages against Auckland, Boca Juniors, and Benfica. If no agreement is reached, Tah will officially remain a Leverkusen player until June 30 and could only join Bayern for the Club World Cup in the quarter-finals at the earliest.

Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund has been making some personnel plans involving a probable return of Mats Hummels, but it seems unlikely given his commitment to retiring with AS Roma at the end of the season. The situation could change if additional defenders sustain injuries. Additionally, Dortmund is considering extending Carney Chukwuemeka's loan deal from Chelsea until the end of the Club World Cup.

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are two high-profile international players rumored to be of interest, with Messi already playing for Inter Miami. FIFA president Gianni Infantino has prepared the goal nets for Ronaldo, currently with Al-Nassr FC in Saudi Arabia, who might leave for another club ahead of the Club World Cup, where he is not eligible to participate due to his team's lack of qualification.

For club teams participating in the Club World Cup, usual international duty releases for national teams, like the UEFA Nations League final tournament, still apply from June 2 to 10. However, there is no obligation for club teams to release players during the Club World Cup, which could impact competitions like the U21 European Championship and the Gold Cup. As a result, the German junior team will be without Bayern goalkeeper Jonas Urbig and new Munich player Tom Bischof, who will be representing their respective clubs in America.

In addition to the special transfer window for the Club World Cup, participating clubs are also allowed to replace and add players within a limited period from June 27 to July 3 during the tournament. This allows for strategic roster adjustments based on performance or injuries.
