Ready for an Exciting Comeback: SVNS Cape Town Awaits Bronze-Winning Blitzboks
The Blitzboks, fresh from their Olympic bronze glory, are eager to conquer the SVNS Cape Town tournament at the DHL Stadium on 7-8 December. After a dismal 2022 series that saw them finish in a7th place and miss out on automatic Olympic qualification, they've bounced back, claiming the 2025 SVNS World Championship in Los Angeles.
Midway through the previous season, Philip Snyman took over as head coach, galvanizing the squad when things looked bleak. They won the Repechage tournament in Monaco, securing their spot in the Paris Olympics. Now, they aim to return South Africa's former Sevens glory in the SVNS series, with an even more thunderous welcome than usual at home.
SVNS Cape Town offers an unparalleled sports entertainment experience, melding rugby excitement with top-tier entertainment. The event proudly showcases South African culture, with the stunning Table Mountain serving as the backdrop.
Two-time world hip-hop champions, Street Stylers, encourage fans to join their world group dancing record attempt, based on the “Amapiano NoDNA JustRSA” dance.
The 2025 SVNS series consists of seven iconic destinations, with each event featuring the top 12 men's and women's teams. The Grand Final will take place in Las Vegas, where the top eight teams will compete for the series title. The remaining teams will battle it out in a relegation play-off to secure their place in the next edition.
This year, Kenya and Uruguay men, and China women secured promotion from the Challenger Series, introducing three new teams.
The men's teams for the 2025 SVNS season include South Africa, Argentina, Ireland, New Zealand, Australia, France, Fiji, Great Britain, USA, Spain, and Uruguay. The women's sides consist of Australia, New Zealand, France, USA, Canada, Fiji, Ireland, Great Britain, Japan, Brazil, Spain, and China.
Coached by Snyman until the 2028 Olympic Games, the Blitzboks have named an experienced and exciting squad. Impi Visser and Zain Davids will serve as co-captains. Though the Blitzboks have yet to win the Cape Town tournament since their 2015 victory, their recent performance and the support of the home crowd make them a strong contender for the title.
Given their impressive 2025 season and the extra boost they'll receive from the crowd, it's well worth betting on the Blitzboks.
