Ready and confident: Frank expresses certainty about Tottenham prior to the Super Cup match

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Tottenham Hotspur are all set to face off in the UEFA Super Cup on August 13, 2025, at Stadio Friuli in Udine, Italy. The highly-anticipated match will mark the first-ever encounter between these two football powerhouses.

The predicted lineups for the clash are as follows:

Paris Saint-Germain: - Lucas Chevalier (Goalkeeper) - Achraf Hakimi, Marquinhos, Willian Pacho, Nuno Mendes (Defenders) - Warren Zaïre-Emery, Vitinha, Fabián Ruiz (Midfielders) - Désiré Doué, Ousmane Dembélé, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (Forwards)

Tottenham Hotspur: - Guglielmo Vicario (Goalkeeper) - Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Micky Van de Ven, Djed Spence (Defenders) - João Palhinha, Rodrigo Bentancur, Mohammed Kudus, Pape Sarr (Midfielders) - Brennan Johnson, Richarlison (Forwards)

The lineups reflect significant changes in PSG's squad, with Lucas Chevalier starting in goal due to Gianluigi Donnarumma's departure and Joao Neves' suspension, while Warren Zaïre-Emery substitutes in midfield. Tottenham's lineup is strong, led by goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and attackers Brennan Johnson and Richarlison.

PSG are favored to win according to pre-match simulations, having been treble winners last season, winning Ligue 1, Coupe de France, and the Champions League. The team has also won five of their eight games against English opposition in 2025 (L3).

Thomas Frank, the new manager of Tottenham Hotspur, is confident about facing Paris Saint-Germain. Despite Spurs losing more games so far in 2025 than any other Premier League side (16), they won the Europa League in May, ending a 17-year trophy drought. However, their previous manager, Ange Postecoglou, was dismissed due to a poor Premier League performance.

Dominic Solanke, Tottenham's joint-top scorer in the Europa League last season with five goals, will be a key player to watch. All five of Solanke's goals came from big chances, and he had nine big chances overall, only Kasper Hogh and Bruno Fernandes scoring from more such opportunities.

Luis Enrique, the manager of Paris Saint-Germain, is focused on winning more trophies, but he is concerned about the lack of preparation due to the Club World Cup. Son Heung-min has left Tottenham, and James Maddison and Yves Bissouma will be unavailable due to disciplinary reasons and injury respectively.

According to OPTA, Paris Saint-Germain have a 62.4% chance of winning the UEFA Super Cup, while the draw is at 19.3% and Tottenham at 18.3%. Despite the odds, Spurs have won their last two meetings with French opponents, both in the 2022-23 Champions League group stages.

Six of the previous seven English sides to feature in the UEFA Super Cup won their first-ever appearance in the final. Tottenham are the eighth different English side to feature in the UEFA Super Cup, with Arsenal, their north London rivals, being the exception, having lost their first appearance in the UEFA Super Cup to AC Milan in 1995.

Each of Spurs' last four wins have come in European competition (vs Eintracht Frankfurt, Bodo/Glimt twice, and Manchester United). As the match approaches, both teams will be eager to make a strong start in the new season.

In the upcoming UEFA Super Cup, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), having won the treble last season and the Champions League, are predicted to secure a win against Tottenham Hotspur, who ended a 17-year trophy drought by winning the Europa League.

However, statistics show that Tottenham have won their last two meetings with French opponents, such as in the 2022-23 Champions League group stages, suggesting a possible upset in this first-ever encounter between these two football powerhouses.
