Preparing for Eurovision's Redemption in Malmö

The docu-series "Ich will zum ESC!" is set to premiere in January 2024, offering a fresh take on discovering German singing talent for the following Eurovision Song Contest. Rea Garvey and Conchita Wurst take up the coaching roles in this six-part docudrama, aiming to build their teams from a pool of 15 hopefuls. The first episodes will be available in the ARD media library on January 25.

As coaches, Garvey and Wurst will guide their selected talents through the competition, trimming the group to the finest singers. In episode five, the show will highlight the coaches' favorites, leaving it up to the audience's vote in the preliminary round of the "Eurovision Song Contest - The German Final 2024." The final instalment will air live on Ersten on February 8, with the winner competing in Berlin.

Eurovision's Return to Malmö

In July 2023, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and SVT announced the May 2024 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest would once again be held in Malmö. The final will take place on May 11, with the semi-finals held on May 7 and May 9.

Germany suffered a disappointing 2023 event in Liverpool, with Lord of the Lost placing last behind the U.K. and Serbia. A stark contrast was Loreen's triumphant return to the competition in 2022, having successfully represented Sweden in 2012 with "Tattoo."

Gearing up for Germany's Chance

To rise above the disappointing 2023 results, ARD is developing a six-part docu-series, "Ich will zum ESC!", featuring Garvey and Wurst in a quest to find and nurture talent. Stemming from their experiences, the coaches will assist hopefuls in their Eurovision journey, culminating in a live finale on Ersten (Source: NTV).

The 2025 Eurovision Song Contest is an opportunity for redemption, and "Ich will zum ESC!" might just be the stepping stone Germany needs to excel in international music competitions. However, the specifics as to how the docu-series will shape the selection process aren't detailed in the available sources.
