Goalkeeper Own Goal Denies Leipzig Third Consecutive Win - RB Leipzig's late own goal denies them victory in dramatic 2-2 draw

RB Leipzig's women's team were denied a quick draw in dramatic fashion. An own goal in stoppage time handed SGS Essen a 2-2 drawing. The result leaves Leipzig stuck in 10th place with 21 points.

The match started poorly for Leipzig as SGS Essen took an early lead. Ramona Maier opened the scoring in just the second minute, set up by Maike Berentzen. Leipzig fought back, equalising in the 49th minute through Delice Boboy.

Leipzig then pushed ahead in the 71st minute when Marleen Schimmer converted a cross from Lisa Baum. But with seconds remaining, goalkeeper Elvira Herzog's own goal levelled the score at 2-2. The late mistake cost Leipzig all three points.

The drawing extends SGS Essen's winless run to three matches, leaving them second-from-bottom on 12 points. Meanwhile, Leipzig's struggles continue, with only four wins and nine losses this season. Their record against top sides remains particularly weak—five straight defeats to FC Bayern with a 2:18 goal difference.

Leipzig's late collapse means they stay 10th, now seven points off the top half. SGS Essen, though still in the relegation zone, pick up a valuable point. Both teams face tough challenges ahead as the season neers its halfway mark.
