Wacky Pentecost Celebrations in Central Germany, Featuring Beer & Tunes!

Pentecost in Central Germany's Evangelical Church in Central Germany (EKM) brings out the crazy! You'll find services in breathtaking locales, such as woodlands, mountaintops, waterfronts, mills, and ruins (EKM reported). Some churches even united for ecumenical services, throw in ceremonies like baptisms, confirmations, and jubilee confirmations, and wind things up with a delightful picnic! Elderly citizens can expect a party at these gatherings, too. There's no shortage of concerts, pilgrimages, and bike tours.

It doesn't get any more unusual than this: On Pentecost Monday, a church service will be held under the motto "Hops and Malt - God Bless it!" in a festival tent at the castle courtyard in Kaltennordheim, Thuringia. Once the service concludes, you can look forward to a musical buffet breakfast and group lunch. Not to be outdone, the Nietleben church in Halle will be hosting a Schlager service for the first time on Pentecost Monday. The Nietleben community's Franziska Mikutta says, "With our Schlager service, we're aiming to try a fresh angle to hook people with little church involvement."
