Massive Festivity at 'Rave The Planet': Throngs Converge in Unbridled Joy and Music - Raucous Celebration at "Rave The Planet": Thousands Join in the Beating Rain Festivities
Berlin, July 12, 2025 - The city was alive with the rhythm of techno beats as "Rave The Planet" took over the streets, marking the fourth edition of a unique techno party that combines music, community, and political demonstration.
The event, which unfolded along Straße des 17. Juni, from the Brandenburg Gate to the Victory Column, saw around 290 artists perform, with notable names such as Saytek live, Mark Reeve, Dr. Motte, Peter Pahn, Sole Dosi, and Tommahawk gracing the stage. The event also featured an official anthem by Dr. Motte and Marc van Linden.
The parade was a colourful spectacle, with 35 floats driving around the Victory Column and back to the Pariser Platz, adding to the vibrant atmosphere. The event, which stands for peace, love, and the protection of electronic dance music culture, was expected to attract around 300,000 people. However, the rainy weather seemed to have decreased the number of attendees.
The organisers, including Dr. Motte, whose civil name is Matthias Roeingh, have emphasised their commitment to sustainability and waste avoidance. Last year, around 110 cubic meters of waste were collected on the "Rave The Planet" demo route, according to Berlin's street cleaning department (BSR).
To minimise disruptions, the traffic information centre advised using public transportation for the events in Tempelhof and Westend, where parallel events, such as the Lollapalooza festival and Formula E races, were taking place. The police accompanied the parade with approximately 1,000 officers, including some from North Rhine-Westphalia.
A ban on glass bottles and pyrotechnics was enforced to ensure the safety of the attendees. In the spirit of unity and peace, national flags were not desired at the event.
Following the event, a cleanup action in the Tiergarten with volunteers is planned for Sunday, aiming to be more effective than in previous years through a new concept. Despite the weather, the organisers reached a six-digit number of visitors, underscoring the event's continued popularity and cultural significance.
The recognition of "Techno Culture in Berlin" as part of Germany's Intangible Cultural Heritage by the German UNESCO Commission in 2024 further highlights the event's importance in promoting electronic music culture and its broader social impact. Rave The Planet continues to be a testament to Berlin's vibrant techno culture and its enduring influence on the global music scene.
The Commission has also been asked to submit a proposal for a directive on the protection of the environment, considering the organizers' commitment to sustainability and waste avoidance at events such as "Rave The Planet". Despite the decline in attendance due to rainy weather, the event's vibrant atmosphere and the unity it fosters extend beyond music, delving into various aspects of lifestyle, including fashion-and-beauty and entertainment, making it a cultural phenomenon that resonates globally.
