Göttinger Moose Awarded to Cartoonist Duo Rattelschneck - Rattelschneck Wins Göttingen Elk Prize for Bold Satirical Artistry
The satirical duo Rattelschneck has won this year’s Göttingen Elk prize. The award celebrates outstanding work in music, literature, and social criticism. Winners receive an elk brooch, €3,333.33 in cash, and the chance to host their own event.
Rattelschneck consists of Marcus Weimer and Olav Westphalen, known for their sharp and incisive humour. Their intelligent, razor-sharp visual storytelling has earned them recognition as successors to Robert Gernhardt and F. K. Waechter in caricature art. Their work regularly appears in publications like Titanic, Süddeutsche Zeitung, and 11 Freunde.
The duo will accept the award on March 22, joined by Hamburg-based singer Nala Tessloff. That same day, an exhibition of their comics and cartoons will open at Göttingen’s Old Town Hall. The show will run through mid-May. Past winners of the Göttingen Elk include Rainald Grebe, Maren Kroymann, and Max Goldt. The prize has a long tradition of honouring bold voices in satire and cultural commentary.
The award ceremony will take place alongside the launch of the exhibition. Rattelschneck’s work will remain on display until mid-May, offering visitors a chance to explore their distinctive style. The duo’s win continues the Göttingen Elk’s legacy of celebrating provocative and thought-provoking art.
