Rashid Khan breaks unfortunate personal and competitive marks by bowling a 59-run stint in The Hundred tournament.

The Hundred Men's Competition witnessed a historic moment in 2025 as Rashid Khan set a new record for the most expensive bowling spell in the tournament's history. Khan's 0-59 for Oval Invincibles against Birmingham Phoenix at Edgbaston surpassed the previous record of 53 runs, a mark set by David Wiese in 2022 and David Payne in 2023.

The damage was largely inflicted by Birmingham Phoenix's middle-order batter, Liam Livingstone, who scored an unbeaten 69 off just 27 balls. Livingstone's blitz made the Phoenix's task significantly easier in the match.

In his 20-ball spell, Khan's economy rate was the highest recorded in men's Hundred history, with no wickets taken. The over included 26 runs, including three sixes and two fours.

For context, David Wiese holds the second most expensive spell with 1-53, bowled against Manchester Originals in 2022. Other notable expensive spells in The Hundred include David Payne's 1-53 for Welsh Fire against Northern Superchargers in 2023, and Rashid Khan's previous expensive spell of 1-55 for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Kings XI Punjab in the 2018 IPL.

The match between Birmingham Phoenix and Oval Invincibles was a closely contested one, with Phoenix managing to win with two balls to spare. Donovan Ferreira scored 63 off 29 balls for Oval Invincibles, including four fours and six sixes. Birmingham Phoenix were 38-1 after 25 balls when Rashid Khan started his over. Oval Invincibles scored 180-8 in their innings.

This unwanted milestone marks a notable low for one of the world's top T20 bowlers, Rashid Khan. Despite this record-breaking performance, Khan's career in The Hundred and beyond continues to be impressive, with numerous accolades to his name.

Sports news outlets reported on the historic moment in the 2025 Hundred Men's Competition, where Rashid Khan's 0-59 for Oval Invincibles against Birmingham Phoenix set a new record for the most expensive bowling spell. This record-breaking performance in cricket news put him above David Wiese's previous record of 53 runs, set in 2022, and tied with David Payne's 2023 performance.
