Rare winter rainbow stuns Khabarovsk in sub-zero spectacle

Experts at the Far Eastern Hydrometeorological Service (FGBI "Dalnevostochnoye UGMS") were stunned when our publication reached out for comment.

"Rainbows typically occur only in summer. Winter brings other optical phenomena, such as halos or 'mock suns' (parhelia). Today's rainbow is truly extraordinary," the Khabarovsk Hydrometeorological Center emphasized.

Meteorologists suggest the unusual sight may have been caused by sunlight refracting through ice crystals in the atmosphere.
