Rapid spree of infractions: Over 300 instances reported on day one
Germany Cracks Down on Speeding During Blitzermarathon
In a bid to improve road safety, Germany intensified its speed enforcement during the Blitzermarathon week from August 4 to 10, 2025. The campaign, which focused on excessive speeding, resulted in substantial fines and license suspensions for offenders.
During this period, a Porsche driver was fined around 1,050 euros and given a three-month driving ban for driving 199 mph (about 320 km/h) in a 75 mph (120 km/h) zone, as the speed violation was 124 mph (200 km/h) above the limit. Another Porsche Panamera driver, recorded at 321 km/h (about 199 mph), was fined 900 euros and given a three-month license suspension for a speed violation of 201 km/h above the limit.
These extreme cases highlight that during the Blitzermarathon, fines for excessive speeding typically range from 900 to over 1,000 euros, accompanied by driving bans of several months. The severity of the penalties increases significantly when the speed limit is exceeded by more than 50 km/h.
Lesser speed violations also attract penalties. For instance, exceeding the speed limit by up to 10 km/h outside towns results in a 20 euro warning fine, while from 16 km/h over the limit, the fine is 60 euros. From 21 km/h over the limit outside towns, a 100 euro fine and one point are added to the driver's record.
In towns, exceeding the speed limit by up to 10 km/h results in a 30 euro warning fine. From 21 km/h over the limit, a 115 euro fine and one point are added. If a driver is caught using a radar app during the drive, they will receive a 75 euro fine and one point.
It's worth noting that a driver's license can be revoked if they accumulate eight points within a certain period. For instance, from 26 km/h over the limit in towns, a one-month driving ban is threatened, and from 26 km/h over the limit outside towns, a one-month driving ban is also threatened.
In conclusion, the Blitzermarathon in August 2025 saw fines for excessive speeding reaching around 900 to 1,050 euros with several months of license suspension for very high speed violations. Lesser speed violations also attract fines and points, while the use of radar apps during driving is also penalised. The campaign serves as a reminder for drivers to adhere to speed limits and drive safely to ensure the safety of all road users.
