Rapid Film Studio Takes on 'Solomamma' - Film Set to Generate Stir Following Successful Showing at Locarno Festival (EXCLUSIVE)

The upcoming Norwegian film "Solomamma" is creating a stir in the European film industry, with prestigious sales agents and distribution partners securing rights for the film.

Produced by Bacon Pictures Oslo, "Solomamma" is a drama with comedic moments that centres around Edith, a 40-year-old single mother and journalist. Edith discovers the identity of her son's anonymous sperm donor: Niels, the creative head behind an addictive video game. She approaches him under the false pretext of doing an interview, but they develop a genuine connection as her deception deepens.

Directed by Janicke Askevold, co-written with Jørgen Færøy Flasnes and Mads Stegger, "Solomamma" represents a Nordic co-production involving Norway, Latvia, Lithuania, Denmark, and Finland. It marks Norway's first selection for the Locarno Film Festival's main international competition since 1975 and will premiere there in August 2025.

Playtime, a prestigious pan-European sales agent and production force, has closed additional pre-sales for "Solomamma" to Italy, Benelux, Israel, and Hungary. Frenetic Films, a Swiss arthouse/crossover distribution house, has secured Swiss rights for the film. Sébastien Beffa, co-CEO of Playtime, is confident that Frenetic will do an excellent job promoting the film. Bacon Pictures Oslo, the lead producer of "Solomamma," has already struck a distribution deal with Scanbox for Scandinavia. Frenetic Films is the distribution partner for "Solomamma" in Switzerland.

At Les Arcs' Work in Progress, "Solomamma" was one of the festival's biggest buzz titles and won the 22 Music Award. Torjus Thesen serves as the cinematographer for "Solomamma," and Patrick Larsgaard is the editor. The film stars Lisa Loven Kongsli and Herbert Nordrum.

"Solomamma" will have its world premiere in the main International Competition at the Locarno Film Festival. It joins Cannes Palme d'Or winner "A Simple Accident" and Grand Prix laureate "Sentimental Value" on Frenetic's slate of pick-ups screening at Locarno. As of early August 2025, "Solomamma" is set for its world premiere at Locarno Film Festival 2025, so it has not yet won awards but is positioned to compete for honors at this prestigious event.

This Norwegian film, "Solomamma", is not only creating a buzz in the European film industry but also falls under the broader category of 'movies-and-tv' as a part of the entertainment industry. The prestigious sales agent, Playtime, has secured rights for the film, and its Swiss distribution partner, Frenetic Films, will be responsible for its release in Switzerland, further underscoring its status as an entertaining offering for viewers.
