Rising Jockey Jack Callan Hospitalized After Fall at Newmarket

Apprentice jockey Jack Callan, the son of Group 1-winning rider Neil Callan, was hospitalized after being unseated from his horse, Spring Bloom, during a 6-furlong handicap race at Newmarket on Friday night.

The incident occurred in the closing stages of the race, with Callan being launched to the ground after Spring Bloom clipped heels. Despite the fall, Callan did not break any bones but sustained a head injury that caused memory loss of the incident. He was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, where he stayed overnight and hoped for release the following day.

Callan, who is just 18 years old and enjoying a successful breakthrough season with 18 winners, riding mainly for trainer George Boughey and others, made the statement on Saturday morning. He expressed optimism about returning to racing soon after his recovery, stating that he expects to be back riding before too long.

Callan has also had winners for Charlie Johnston, James Tate, Marco Botti, and Richard Spencer. His impressive season has earned him a place in the spotlight, with many eyes on his recovery and return to the track.

At this time, no further detailed updates on his recovery or return to racing beyond his initial hospital stay and hopeful outlook have been provided.

Meanwhile, another jockey, Frankie Dettori, is preparing for his Shergar Cup debut at Ascot and seeking advice from fellow jockeys.
