Rapid Departure: Coach Glawogger Leaves Waldhof
SV Waldhof Mannheim Appoints New Coach After Disappointing Start to Season
In a surprising turn of events, German third-tier football club SV Waldhof Mannheim has parted ways with coach Dominik Glawogger following a disappointing start to the current season. The termination came after just two games, with the team's performance failing to show significant improvement from their narrow escape from relegation last season.
Glawogger took over the reins from Bernhard Trares in April, but his tenure was short-lived. Of the nine competitive games he coached, SV Waldhof Mannheim managed to secure victories in only three. The latest setback came in the form of a 0:1 loss against FC Hansa Rostock, a result that leaves the team languishing near the bottom of the table.
Prior to this loss, SV Waldhof Mannheim had drawn 2:2 against SC Verl, a result that offered a glimmer of hope but ultimately proved to be short-lived. Sporting director Gerhard Zuber explained the termination as a failure to progress in sporting development at the start of the season.
In a bid to turn things around, SV Waldhof Mannheim has appointed Luc Holtz as their new coach. Holtz, who resigned as Luxembourg's national men's team coach, was officially unveiled in August 2025. He plans to implement a playing style based on ball possession and defensive solidity, and has expressed commitment to the club's ambition to reach the second Bundesliga.
The club did not announce a potential successor for Glawogger in their statement, but the appointment of Holtz marks a fresh start for the struggling team. As they embark on this new chapter, SV Waldhof Mannheim will be hoping for improved results and a more successful campaign in the remainder of the season.
