Women's Football Coach Montse Tomé Radiates Confidence Ahead of Euro Cup

Montse Tomé, the head coach of Spain's women's football team, beams with positivity as they are set to compete in the Euro Cup in Switzerland following their thrilling 3-1 victory against Japan. The clutch win on Friday served as an impressive last test before the tournament, solidifying their readiness to take on the competition.

In a post-match press conference, Tomé expressed her delight, saying, "We're leaving with good feelings, knowing that this was our last test before the Euro Cup. We wanted to do well, get the victory, and put our hard work throughout these days on the field. Special emphasis was given to the collective defensive phase, and I think the team played a fantastic game."

While Japan managed to snatch a goal, Tomé viewed it as a minor setback. "A bit of bad luck, but the team's feeling is still good. Additionally, players who typically don't start have performed admirably when they came in."

The coach pointed out that both halves of the match revealed several positive aspects, although she believes they could've attacked the open spaces more in the first half due to Japan's tendency to work well as a team. However, the second half demonstrated significant growth, with players connecting swiftly and the team gaining confidence.

To further boost their morale, Tomé commended the performances of three standout players—Mariona Caldentey, who can excel in any position due to her profound understanding; Claudia Pina, a prodigious finisher in the area; and Vicky López, a natural talent who has been patiently waiting for her opportunity.

With eyes on the eagerly anticipated match against Portugal, Tomé firmly believes the team is moving in the right direction. "We have to be patient with Vicky and nurture her growth, but I feel she truly shined during this game. She pressed effectively and scored a goal. That motivation should serve as fuel to continue improving."
