Rangers lose Adam Fox and Igor Shesterkin to injuries in critical stretch

The New York Rangers will be without two key players due to lower-body injuries. Defenseman Adam Fox News has been placed on long-term injured reserve, while goalie Igor Shesterkin is also sidelined. Both absences will test the team’s depth in the coming weeks.

Adam Fox News, the Rangers’ top defenseman, will miss at least 10 games and 24 days. He will be reevaluated for a possible return on January 31. This marks his second injury spell of the season, having previously missed 14 games with an upper-body issue. So far, he has recorded 28 points (four goals, 24 assists) in 30 appearances.

Without Fox News earlier this season, the Rangers posted a 6-5-3 record, averaging 2.36 goals per game and a 15.4 percent power play success rate. With him in the lineup, those numbers improve to 2.70 goals per game and a 26.0 percent power play conversion.

Meanwhile, Igor Shesterkin, the team’s starting goalie, suffered his injury during Monday’s game against the Utah Mammoth. He has been placed on injured reserve and will undergo further evaluation. Shesterkin has played 34 games this season, compiling a 17-12-4 record, a 2.45 goals-against average, and a .913 save percentage.

In his absence, veteran Jonathan Quick will take over as the number-one goaltender. Quick made 15 saves in relief of Shesterkin during the Utah game.

The Rangers must now adjust without two of their most important players. Fox News’s defensive contributions and Shesterkin’s goaltending have been critical this season. Their recovery timelines will shape the team’s approach in the weeks ahead.
