Rangers exchange Emerson Etem for Nicklas Jensen from Vancouver
Emerson Etem, who was acquired by the New York Rangers from Anaheim last summer, was traded to the Vancouver Canucks on an unspecified date. In return, the Rangers sent Carl Hagelin to the Ducks and received Nicklas Jensen and a sixth-round pick in the 2017 draft.
Etem, who carries a $850,500 annual cap charge, has appeared in 131 NHL games, scoring 15 goals and 34 points, mostly with the Ducks. However, he was not present at practice before the trade, and it was later revealed that he was assigned to the Rangers' AHL affiliate for conditioning.
Interestingly, Etem is a restricted free agent after this season. His departure opens up an opportunity for Jayson Megna, who recently made his Rangers debut against Dallas and scored a goal and an assist. Megna will skate on the second line with Rick Nash and Derek Stepan against the Capitals.
Meanwhile, Chris Kreider is out due to a cut on his right hand and will not dress against Washington. The search results do not provide the name of the Rangers coach who traded Etem to the Vancouver Canucks.
In other news, a Rangers scout is expected to watch Tampa prospect Jonathan Drouin play for the AHL's Syracuse Crunch this weekend. It remains to be seen if Drouin's performance will spark any interest from the Rangers.
Finally, it's worth noting that Jayson Megna has surpassed Emerson Etem on the depth chart. This trade marks a significant shift in the Rangers' lineup, and fans are eager to see how these changes will impact the team's performance moving forward.
