Rangers defenseman Adam Fox faces significant pressure this season with much to prove
In the 2021-2022 NHL season, the New York Rangers experienced a significant decline in performance, and the repercussions were felt far and wide. Among the players associated with the team during that season, Adam Fox, a top defenseman in the league, saw his reputation take a significant hit.
A year prior, Fox had made history as the second defenseman in NHL history to win the Norris Trophy in his sophomore season, following in the footsteps of the legendary Bobby Orr. However, his performance in the 2021-2022 season did not meet the same level of success, resulting in a notable drop in his reputation.
Fox was not the only one to suffer a decline in reputation during the Rangers' last season. His teammates, including Chris Kreider, Mika Zibanajed, and Jacob Trouba, as well as the team's General Manager, Chris Drury, and then-head coach, Peter Laviolette, all experienced a significant drop in their standing.
Before the 2021-2022 season, Fox was all but sainted, with exceptional performances earning him a reputation as one of the league's best defensemen. However, the team's overall performance during that season led to a decline in the reputation of everyone associated with the Rangers.
Despite the decline in reputation, Fox's accomplishments remain impressive. He finished in the top five of the Norris Trophy balloting in each of the three seasons following his sophomore season. In fact, he is the only defenseman to finish in the top five of the Norris Trophy balloting in each of the four seasons following his sophomore season, as of the Rangers' last season.
As for the team, the Rangers' last season marked a turning point in their history. The decline in reputation for all those associated with the team serves as a reminder of the importance of consistent performance in maintaining a positive image. The team, now under new leadership, will look to rebound in the upcoming season and restore the reputation they had before the 2021-2022 season.
