Rangers claim defenseman Vincent Iorio off waivers for added NHL depth
The New York Rangers have claimed defenseman Vincent Iorio off waivers. The 23-year-old joins his third NHL team after stints with the Washington Capitals and San Jose Sharks. His move follows a season split between the Sharks and their AHL affiliate, the San Jose Barracuda.
Iorio began his professional career after being drafted 55th overall by the Capitals in 2021. Before turning pro, he spent four seasons with the Brandon Wheat Kings in the WHL, recording 82 points across 191 games.
His NHL experience includes nine games with Washington during the 2022-23 season and 21 appearances for San Jose this term, where he registered three points. In total, he has played 30 NHL games, collecting four points.
The 6-4, 220-pound blueliner has also been a key figure in the AHL. Last season, he featured in 67 games for the Hershey Bears, contributing 20 points and ranking third among the team's defensemen in scoring and shots. He was part of back-to-back Calder Cup-winning Bears teams in 2023 and 2024. Over his AHL career, Iorio has played 196 regular-season games, amassing 63 points.
Iorio now joins the Rangers after being claimed on waivers. His experience in both the NHL and AHL, combined with his size and offensive contributions, adds depth to New York's defensive lineup. The move marks another step in his developing career.
