Rangers acquire top prospect Liam Greentree in blockbuster Panarin trade
The New York Rangers have traded for 20-year-old forward Liam Greentree. The deal sends Artemi Panarin to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for the young prospect. Greentree, a former first-round pick, brings strong offensive numbers from his time in junior hockey.
Greentree was originally selected by the Kings 26th overall in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. Since then, he has spent four seasons with the Windsor Spitfires in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). Over 223 games, he recorded 299 points, including 133 goals and 166 assists.
This season alone, he has 45 points (23 goals, 22 assists) in just 34 games. His performance places him third in goals, fourth in points, and fifth in assists among all Spitfires skaters. Last year, he ranked third in OHL scoring with 119 points (49 goals, 70 assists), fourth in goals, and fifth in assists league-wide.
Greentree has also worn the captain's 'C' for Windsor over the past three seasons. Internationally, he has represented Team Canada at the 2026 World Junior Championships and the U18 Championships.
The Rangers gain a proven junior scorer with leadership experience. Greentree's arrival follows a trade that saw Panarin move to Los Angeles. His track record in the OHL and international play suggests he could soon contribute at the NHL level.
