Rams' possible swap for Jalen Ramsey stokes anticipation during OTAs workshops

Potential Jalen Ramsey Return to LA Rams As Trade Talks Simmer

The Los Angeles Rams' ongoing organized team activities were overshadowed by the possibility of a notable addition to their roster. Miami Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey, a key player in the team's Super Bowl LVI victory, could potentially rejoin the Rams before training camp begins.

Rams head coach Sean McVay confirmed that Ramsey remains a possibility for the team, acknowledging the mutual interest after practice. The Dolphins have expressed a willingness to trade Ramsey, who is set to earn $24.2 million this season, according to Overthecap.com.

McVay indicated that discussions regarding Ramsey have been minimal as of late but left the door open for a potential change in dialogue. "We certainly haven't closed the door on that," McVay said, "but there hasn't been a lot of dialogue as of late... We'll see if that changes."

The Dolphins were not expected to trade Ramsey until after June 1, allowing their cap hit to decrease from $25.2 million to $6.7 million, according to Overthecap.com.

The Rams open their season at home against the Texans and travel to face the Eagles in Week 3, a trip that will see the team rack up almost 35,000 road miles. With an offense led by quarterback Matthew Stafford, receivers Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, and running back Kyren Williams, and a defense anchored by lineman Kobie Turner and edge rusher Jared Verse, the Rams are expected to make another deep playoff run.

Despite a strong offense, the Rams did not bolster their secondary in either free agency or the draft. Veterans Darious Williams and Ahkello Witherspoon return as the starting cornerbacks, with Cobie Durant, Emmanuel Forbes Jr., Derion Kendrick, and Charles Wallace competing for playing time. Quentin Lake, Kam Curl, Jaylen McCollough, and Kam Kinchens round out the returning safeties.

Darious Williams expressed confidence in the team's secondary and praised Ramsey's impact when the two faced off in 2021. "I knew absolutely, when he was on the other side," Williams said, "I better lock up because it's not going to be a lot of times that people are going to want to try him..."

Rookie tight end Terrance Ferguson, a second-round draft pick, has exceeded expectations, while Kyren Williams, entering the final year of his rookie contract, is participating in workouts as the Rams and his agent try to negotiate an extension. Lakers coach JJ Redick attended practice.
