Rambo's origins to be explored in a prequel movie featuring a Netflix heartthrob stepping into the titular role, as portrayed by Sylvester Stallone.
In an exciting turn of events, a new Rambo prequel movie is set to hit the silver screen, with Noah Centineo taking on the iconic role of a younger John Rambo. The film, directed by Jalmari Helander, known for his work on the action film Sisu, will serve as an origin story focused on Rambo's intense combat experiences during the Vietnam War.
The screenplay for the new Rambo movie is in the capable hands of Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, who have crafted a plot that explores Rambo's roots before the events of the 1982 classic, First Blood. Filming is expected to commence in Thailand in October, with Lionsgate as a likely distributor.
Sylvester Stallone, who played Rambo in the previous movies, has expressed his awareness of the project but is not involved in the new film, though a cameo is not completely ruled out. The film aims to introduce a fresh chapter to the Rambo legacy, appealing to both longtime fans and new audiences.
Noah Centineo, known for his work in Netflix's romantic and action-oriented series, is no stranger to high-octane roles. Previously, he was attached to play He-Man in a live-action Masters of the Universe movie, but the project fell through. Centineo will now have the opportunity to bring a new dimension to the Rambo character, as he steps into the boots of the legendary soldier.
The new Rambo movie is expected to begin filming in early 2026 in Thailand. Stallone's lack of involvement in the new Rambo movie may be related to his departure from the Rocky franchise, a move that has left him expressing unhappiness about not owning any part of the franchise.
Despite Stallone's absence, the Rambo franchise continues to thrive, with the most recent instalment, Rambo: Last Blood, released in 2019 and leaving the possibility for additional sequels open. The new prequel promises to deliver the same gritty, action-packed storytelling that fans have come to expect from the Rambo series.
