The iconic action franchise, Rambo, is set to return with a fresh perspective, as a prequel starring Noah Centineo as a young John Rambo. The film, currently in pre-production, will delve into Rambo's past as a Vietnam War veteran, offering insights into the formative events that shaped the character before the original series timeline.

Jalmari Helander, known for his work in films like Big Game and Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale, is set to direct the new movie. The screenplay has been penned by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, the duo behind critically acclaimed films like The Last Duel and Saint Maud.

The filming is scheduled to begin in Thailand in 2026, although the distribution platform has yet to be finalized, with Lionsgate being a strong contender. However, Sylvester Stallone, who originated the role of Rambo and last reprised it in Rambo: Last Blood (2019), will not be part of this prequel.

The decision behind Stallone's absence from the new film is unclear, but it may be due to his long-standing discontent about not owning the Rocky franchise, as he previously expressed his thoughts about Ryan Gosling leading future Rambo movies.

Despite Stallone's absence, the new Rambo movie promises a significant shift in tone and era, representing a fresh start for the franchise with a younger actor in the lead role. Noah Centineo, known for his roles in Netflix shows like To All the Boys I've Loved Before and The Recruit, is set to take on the challenge.

Centineo's recent appearances include playing Atom Smasher in Black Adam and Ken in the upcoming Street Fighter movie. His involvement in the Rambo prequel marks a departure from his usual roles, promising an exciting new chapter for the franchise.

The Rambo prequel is a testament to the enduring appeal of the franchise, despite the less-than-positive reception of the most recent Rambo entry, Rambo: Last Blood. As production moves forward, fans eagerly await more details about this anticipated film.
