Thailand Ends Unbeaten Streak in SEA V League, Philippines Face Indonesia Next

The Southeast Asian volleyball scene witnessed a significant shift as Thailand's dominance in the SEA V League was brought to an end by Vietnam in the 2025 edition. This marked the first time Vietnam had ever defeated Thailand in the SEA V League or SEA Games finals.

The decisive match took place on August 9, with Thailand emerging victorious in four sets against Alas Pilipinas Women. The Thai team started strongly, taking an early lead in the fourth set at 12-10. From there, they went on to win the set decisively with a 13-6 breakaway that Alas could not counter.

The second set was also a blowout for Thailand, with Alas struggling to keep up. The third set, however, was a closer affair. The Philippines managed to secure a 26-24 win, thanks in part to the efforts of Angel Canino, who was dubbed "Heaven Sent" for her contributions to the team. The flow of the match was characterised by alternating fortunes for Alas, with strong performances in one set followed by poor performances in the next.

Despite the loss, the Philippines find themselves in a virtual bronze medal match in the SEA V League. They currently have a 0-2 record, with their next match against Indonesia on August 10, 5 pm (Manila time). Indonesia is currently winless in the SEA V League.

Thailand, on the other hand, has been unstoppable since the tournament's inception in 2019. They have won eight leg championships and have not lost a single match in the SEA V League, with a 26-match winning streak. This streak included six consecutive SEA V.League runners-up finishes.

The SEA V League tournament is a regional volleyball tournament that brings together teams from the Southeast Asian region. It has been a platform for Thailand's dominance, with their impressive record serving as a testament to their skill and consistency.
