Rajasthan Public Service Commission Appoints Utkal Ranjan Sahoo as Chairperson

Utkal Ranjan Sahoo Takes Helm at Rajasthan Public Service Commission

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss? Well, not quite. Utkal Ranjan Sahoo, a grizzled veteran of the Rajasthan police force, has swapped his trusty police baton for a gavel, taking on the role of Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) chairman this June.

Hailing from Odisha, Sahoo has navigated the rugged terrain of Rajasthan since joining as Jodhpur ASP in 1991. His career has seen him serve as the top cop in numerous districts, including Sikar, Hanumangarh, Barmer, Banswara, Sriganganagar, Bhilwara, Dholpur, and yes, you guessed it, Jodhpur once more. His significant promotion to Director General (DG) came in June 2020.

Before ascending to his latest position, Sahoo helmed the DG Home Guard post for nearly two and a half years. A surprising detour to the top, considering he'd initially been handed the additional charge as DGP of Rajasthan following Umesh Mishra's retirement on December 29, 2023, only to be officially appointed as the full-time DGP on February 10, 2024, for a two-year term.

In his new role, Sahoo's pledged to give it his all, stating, "I've been serving in public office for the past 35 years, faithfully executing orders. Now, with this new responsibility, I'll do my best to run this show. I'll give it every ounce I've got!"

Addressing challenges in the recruitment process, Sahoo pointed out that fair and secure exams had long been a headache. But he applauded the effective collaboration between Rajasthan Police, SIT, and other agencies in recent times, ensuring a smooth running of exams for the past eighteen months. He stressed the importance of transparency and integrity in the recruitment process, aiming to maintain these values as he steps into his new role.

While search results are somewhat vague about the exact years when Sahoo took on the roles of ASP or DG Home Guard, they do confirm his impressive career growth in Rajasthan. Keep your eyes peeled for more updates, and cheers to Utkal Ranjan Sahoo, the man with the gavel!

Sahoo's new role as RPSC chairman involves a shift from politics to policy-and-legislation, a testament to his versatile career in public service. As he embarks on this new journey, he emphasizes the importance of transparency and integrity in the recruitment process, demonstrating his commitment to general news matters and politics.
