India Weather Forecast: Widespread Rainfall Across the Country Over the Next Week

India is bracing for a week of widespread rainfall, with several regions experiencing active monsoon conditions. Here's a breakdown of the forecast for various regions:

Southern India

Tamil Nadu and Telangana are in for isolated heavy showers, while Kerala is expected to witness the onset of the Southwest Monsoon within the next 2-3 days. Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema will experience thundersqualls with gusty winds, and Southern India as a whole is set to receive widespread rainfall over the week.

Western and Central India

Maharashtra and Gujarat will witness widespread rainfall and thunderstorms, particularly from May 23 to 28. The Konkan, Goa, Karnataka, and Kerala regions are expected to receive intense rainfall over the next week, with extremely heavy rainfall forecasted in Konkan & Goa from May 23 to 24 and in Coastal Karnataka on May 24.

Northern India

Delhi is expected to experience light rain, thunderstorms, and cooler temperatures until May 25. West Rajasthan is experiencing severe heatwave conditions, likely to continue until May 26, with duststorms (40-50 kmph) expected from May 23-25. Northwest India is expected to experience a drop in temperature by 2-4°C from May 23-25, followed by a rise.

Eastern India

Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Assam & Meghalaya, and Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and other central-eastern states are forecasted for moderate rainfall with occasional thundersqualls. Vidarbha may experience isolated heavy rain on May 24, while Jharkhand and Bengal may experience isolated heavy rain on May 23.

Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand

Hailstorms are expected in Himachal Pradesh from May 23-24, and heavy rain and hailstorms are forecasted in Uttarakhand during the same period.

Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh

These regions are currently under heatwave conditions.

Looking Ahead to August 18–25, 2025

In August 2025, Kerala is likely to experience above normal rainfall with heavy to very heavy rainfall episodes continuing intermittently, especially along the coast. Gujarat, Konkan & Goa, and Karnataka are also expected to receive above normal rainfall, with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places. Rajasthan will see above normal precipitation, with south Rajasthan especially experiencing fairly widespread rains during many days of the week.

Users in these areas should stay updated given the tendency for localized heavy downpours during the monsoon season. The development of cyclonic circulations along the west coast and Gangetic plains may enhance showers intermittently. Temperature conditions generally remain warm typical of the Indian monsoon season.

No new extreme weather warnings were noted specifically for the coming week beyond heavy rainfall alerts already indicated.

Weather-forecasting for the next week predicts widespread rainfall over India, particularly in Southern India where regions like Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Kerala are expected to experience heavy showers. In Western and Central India, Maharashtra and Gujarat will witness widespread rainfall and thunderstorms, with intense rainfall forecasted in Konkan & Goa and Coastal Karnataka.
