Rainfall Advisory from July 5-8 by IMD: Rainfall Warning Issued for Multiple Districts with an Orange Alert, While Mumbai is under a Yellow Alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall warning for Mumbai and several surrounding districts from July 5 to 8, 2025. This forecast highlights a period of intense monsoon activity, necessitating vigilance and preparation for heavy rainfall impacts.

Key details of the warning include:

**Rainfall Alerts:**

Mumbai is under a yellow alert from July 5 to July 7, indicating heavy rainfall at isolated places. Thane district has an orange alert for July 6, signaling heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated areas. Nearby districts such as Raigad and Ratnagiri are also expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, with orange alerts in place for these regions.

**Predicted Rainfall Amounts and Areas Affected:**

Widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast over the Konkan region, which includes Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg. The ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra are expected to receive extremely heavy rainfall on July 6 and 7. Marathwada region will have scattered to fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy showers during the same period. Light to moderate rain is also expected in districts like Nashik, Pune, and Kolhapur.

**Weather Conditions:**

Multiple weather systems, including a cyclonic circulation over northern Gangetic West Bengal and an offshore trough along the Maharashtra-Karnataka coast, are contributing to this heavy rain. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of 45-55 kmph are anticipated in some areas.

**Precautions and Effects:**

Authorities have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel during peak rainfall due to potential waterlogging and travel disruptions. Disaster response teams have been deployed in flood-prone areas. High tides combined with heavy rain could worsen flooding and waterlogging, particularly in low-lying zones of Mumbai.

Residents in Mumbai and the affected districts are encouraged to stay informed and follow local weather updates. The IMD will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as necessary.

India is anticipated to experience heavy rainfall in several districts between July 5 and 8, 2025, with Mumbai under a yellow alert for heavy rainfall at isolated places from July 5 to July 7. Weather forecasting by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) also indicates orange alerts for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and other neighboring districts, particularly on July 6.
