Rain-Soaked Happy Gathering with Gunfire in Derendorf
The Derendorf district of Düsseldorf, Germany, recently hosted its annual Shooting Festival, a traditional event that celebrates marksmen's traditions with parades, music, and shooting competitions. This year's festival, held from 4th to 7th July, was marked by some unusual circumstances.
Despite the rain on Sunday (6th July), the grand parade commenced, with Victoria Holzhauser crowned as the new junior marksmen queen, accompanied by Jan-Luca Frinken. The Tambour-Corps Derendorf, a local drum and bugle corps, provided musical accompaniment, having been awake since 6 am to prepare for the parade.
Due to hot temperatures exceeding 35 degrees in other districts, the Derendorf parade had to be held indoors. Oberst Daniel Becker shortened the parade route to accommodate this change. The regiment's new king and queen, Dirk Schiffer and Victoria Holzhauser, were determined in the shooting range.
The children from the Eulerstraße children's aid center were traditionally invited to the festival opening on Friday (4th July). The Andreas Hofer society, a cultural association named after the Tyrolean folk hero, organized a special princess day in honour of a late member, Michael Hofer. Mira and Kathy, both 7 years old, were princesses for a day during the parade.
The Tambour-Corps Derendorf paid a heartfelt tribute to the new regimental king and queen with an honor guard. The children's program on Saturday included children's crossbow shooting, a children's participatory circus, and magic. Nele, Simon, Charlotte, and Julius were part of the king's house.
The festival ended on Monday evening with the coronation, the grand tattoo, and fireworks. The Düsseldorf Sterntaler association received a check for €11,586 from the donations. The current monarchs demonstrated the Derendorf marksmen's strong social commitment by forgoing gifts and instead requesting donations and selling a king's coin.
A special mention goes to the Andreas Hofer society for their role in organizing or supporting the festival, emphasizing historical remembrance and cultural heritage. Unfortunately, specific details about the history or significance of the Derendorf Shooting Festival, or the exact roles of the Tambour-Corps Derendorf and the Andreas Hofer society, could not be found in the available search results.
