The German relay teams had a mixed performance at the World Relays in Guangzhou, a qualifying event for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. In the rainy conditions, three teams booked their spots for Tokyo, while two must run again, and one celebrated a debut.

The men's 4x100-meter relay team and two women's teams secured their places for Tokyo. Led by the 9.99-second man Owen Ansah, the quartet finished second in their heat, clocking 38.33 seconds. The women's 4x400-meter relay team also qualified. They managed a second-place finish with a time of 3:28.63 minutes. The women's 4x100-meter relay team, missing Gina Lückenkemper, still made it to Tokyo, finishing third and securing the sixth-fastest time of 42.98 seconds.

However, the mixed 4x400-meter relay team and the men's 4x400-meter relay team failed to impress, finishing fourth and sixth, respectively. They will need to run again on Sunday.

There were a total of fourteen nations that qualified for the World Championships in the 4x100-meter (men and women) and 4x400-meter (men, women, and mixed) relays. The teams competed to secure direct tickets to the World Relays final and the Tokyo World Championships. On Sunday, all teams that missed the final will contend in three heats, with two teams per heat qualifying for Tokyo.

In an attempt to prepare for the World Relays, the German team held a training camp in Kuala Lumpur. The mixed 4x100-meter relay, featuring women running the initial two legs followed by men, debuted in fourth place. While the event won't be included in the Tokyo World Championships, it will feature in the 2026 European Championships and the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. The debut team, comprising Sina Mayer, Sina Kammerschmitt, Aleksandar Askovic, and Chidiera Onuoha, completed the course in 41.43 seconds.
