Troublesome Weather in Bavaria This Holiday Season

Not a white Christmas for many in Bavaria this year as persistent rain, storms, and flooding take center stage. Emergency services were kept busy on Christmas Eve, dealing with aftermath of storm "Zoltan."

Rising Waters

Flood situation in Bavaria remains tense with heavy rainfall expected to continue for several days. Areas north and east of Bavaria see river levels rise due to relentless precipitation. Districts report level 3 warnings, indicating flooding in built-up areas, with some districts even surpassing level 4. Regions like Franconia, eastern Bavaria, and parts of Swabia are particularly affected.

Heavy weathers between Saturday and Sunday inscribe Upper Franconia, resulting in flooded cellars and overflowing streets. Middle and Lower Franconia hampered by excessive rain, emergency services busy clearing parking lots, and multiple road closures. Amberg in Upper Palatinate constructs flood bridge in Old Town due to rising Vils levels. Worry of further flooding looms over rest of Bavaria.

Stormy Operations

Emergency services in Bavaria respond to storm "Zoltan" hundreds of times on Saturday and Christmas Eve. Reports reveal minor incidents, but no severe property damage or injuries. One individual slightly injured in car accident near Altomünster (Dachau district), a car trailer swept into oncoming traffic by gusts.

Luck turns for Munich residents on Saturday as scaffolding collapses above them, trapping father and son. Despite father's finger injury, son remains unharmed. Meanwhile, residents of Bad Abbach in Kelheim district, eager to shop before Christmas Eve, encounter storm rages, ripping off large portions of a supermarket roof.

No Snowy Christmas

Unfavorable weather conditions for many in Germany and Bavaria this Christmas. Mild, green, and quite windy described by German Weather Service (DWD) on Sunday. Rain showers replace snowflakes, continuing throughout day. Upsurge in temperatures coerce snow line to climb between 2100 and 2400 meters.

DWD warns storms will afflict Franconian Forest, Fichtel Mountains, and Bavarian Forest due to continuous rain. Snow may break out sporadically in southern regions but do not anticipate significant accumulation.
