Railroad in Ukraine severely hit by Russian military assault
According to the head of PJSC "Ukrzaliznytsia", Alexander Pertovsky, a series of attacks on Ukrainian railway infrastructure have been taking place since July. The latest attack, reported on September 17, targeted several stations and energy substations, causing significant disruptions and delays on various routes.
The attacks, which involve the use of drones, have affected stations such as Lozova, Synelnykove, Kazatin, and others. This has resulted in delays to dozens of trains on the Dnieper direction and the Odessa direction, as reported by the press service of "Ukrzaliznytsia". Some trains have been stopped by dispatchers at a safe distance from the impact zone, while others are running on changed routes to avoid the affected areas.
The explosions on the railway tracks in the Oryol and Leningrad Oblasts in Russia, reportedly carried out by the Ukrainian military's intelligence service HUR and the special forces SSO, have also caused power outages and disrupted railway traffic on two railway lines in Russia.
In response to these attacks, twenty reserve diesel locomotives have been deployed to address the situation and ensure the continuity of services.
It is important to note that these attacks are not one-sided. According to Ukrainian sources and confirmed reports, the explosions on Russian railway tracks on September 13 and 14 were carried out by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the Special Operations Forces of Ukraine, in an attempt to disrupt Kremlin supply lines.
PJSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" posted this information on its website on September 17, urging passengers to check the status of their trains before travelling and to be prepared for possible delays or route changes.
As the situation continues to develop, it is crucial for both passengers and railway workers to stay informed and adapt to the changing circumstances. The attacks on Ukrainian and Russian railways have caused significant disruptions, but efforts are being made to ensure the continuity of services and to keep passengers safe.
