This Sunday, Deutsche Bahn attempted to resume some long-distance services at Munich Central Station, following the extreme weather conditions. However, passengers should brace for significant disruptions on Monday, as the spokesperson confirmed. As of initial operation, trains were operational for the Munich - Nuremberg and Munich - Stuttgart routes, but schedules were reduced, and cancellations could strike at short notice.

Regrettably, Monday witnessed an even grimmer picture. The rail corporation announced extensive cancellations, particularly in the southern regions of the state capital. This affected the Werdenfelsbahn line between Munich, Weilheim, and the Garmisch area; services between Munich and Salzburg/Innsbruck, and Munich and Lindau/Oberstdorf were inconceivable. Essentially, rail services on the Ulm diesel network, Danube-Isar Express (RE3), between Freising and Landshut (RB33), and suburban service within Buchloe (RB74) ceased.

Given the vast number of impacted routes, a thorough substitute service by bus wasn't achievable. The spokesperson implored passengers to inquire about their specific routes before embarking on their journey and advised delaying non-essential trips until Tuesday or after.

On Saturday night, a heavy snowfall had taken a severe toll on rail traffic across significant areas of southern Germany. Trains laden with snow were unable to commence and collapsed trees blocked paths while overhead wires were blanketed in ice.
